Great Music from Ages Past

A New Family Music Album from the Strackbeins

“Rejoice in the LORD, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright. Praise the LORD with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings. Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise. For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth.” (Psalm 33:1-4)

Strackbein Kin Near Squaw Creek - Copy

A gathering of Strackbein kin near Squaw Creek in the Texas Hill Country

Near the banks of Squaw Creek and by the waters of the Pedernales, the sound of music could once be heard from two Texas families. Their lineage was a mix of German, Scotch-Irish, and English, and they made their homes in the Hill Country during a time when the arrows of the Indian still flew. They sang the hymns of Luther, tapped their feet to Irish jigs, and played the old fiddle tunes of the frontier.

This is our family heritage from our Holden and Strackbein forebears who lived near Fredericksburg, Texas in the 1800s, and we are grateful for their love of music and for the musical heirlooms they’ve passed down to us.

Drawing from our kinfolk’s legacy, as well as the help of other friends who’ve gifted us with wonderful instruments and encouragement over the years, we are happy to announce a new family music project. This studio recording will showcase a sampling of some of our favorite folk songs, hymns, and Scriptures put to music, and will feature a variety of stringed and wind instruments. And, yes, it will include a bit of singing too!

We respectfully ask for your prayers as we embark on this new project.
